Woodstock Middle School Principal Ken Nix
Why did you choose to become a Principal?
My drive to become a principal came from a desire to make a larger impact in the school and community. As a past classroom teacher, I remember firsthand challenges that students and teachers face, and I feel that in the principal role, I help shape and support the educational journey. I was blessed with some great principals while I was in school, and they helped shape me as a person and as a student. I would like the opportunity to provide the same to our students and staff.
What inspires you in your work as a Principal?
My inspiration comes from the daily opportunities to watch students and teachers grow. Watching individuals overcome challenges, reach milestones, and work together to accomplish tasks, fuels my commitment to our community and school. Additionally, I find inspiration in trying to create an environment where learning is at utmost importance, but also understanding the importance of creating a culture where everyone feels valued and included in the process. The educational process is extremely transformative, and I have the privilege of helping guide that transformation every day.
How are you Elevating the Excellence in your school?
Woodstock Middle School has adopted the focus of creating positive relationships, setting high standards, and fostering an environment where staff and students achieve their full potential. Our teachers at WMS do a great job of encouraging a growth mindset and promoting a culture where mistakes and challenges are seen as opportunities for growth. On any given day, you can watch our students persevere through challenges as they strive to find the correct answer or result. We are also Elevating the Excellence by promoting student ownership in their learning and within their community. Students have been involved in setting personal goals, monitoring their own process, integrating real-world applications, and are constantly challenging themselves with inquiry-based activities. We are excited to see our students continue to grow at WMS, where striving for excellence is a part of our daily routine.
