Meet the Principal: Elizabeth Spell of Woodstock MS

Our Principals can’t wait to welcome our students to learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms!  As we count down to the first day of school, we’re introducing you to our schools’ new principals.

Woodstock Middle School’s new leader approaches her role with the mindset of a coach.

Principal Liz Spell, who played Division I college basketball, brings 26 years of experience as an educator to her new role.  She most recently served as assistant principal at Cherokee High School, and during her tenure there was named a Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals’ Assistant Principal of the Year state finalist.  Principal Spell began her CCSD career as a social studies teacher at Cherokee HS.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

More than anything, I am incredibly excited to meet all of our amazing students and families and truly become an active, integrated part of the vibrant Woodstock community.  There is a special kind of energy that comes with building a strong, unified “Wolfpack.”  I’m looking forward to being highly visible in the hallways, greeting students at morning drop-off, and partnering with our dedicated faculty and staff to maintain a positive, supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and motivated to achieve their personal best.

What inspired you to become an educator?

Throughout my life and my 26 years in education, I have always been deeply inspired by coaches.  A great coach does so much more than just draw up plays — they build a cohesive team, unlock hidden potential, instill confidence, and rally everyone around a shared goal.  That “team-first” mindset is exactly what drew me to education.  I wanted to bring that same dedication, energy, and passion into the school environment, coaching both teachers and students to recognize their strengths, overcome obstacles, and work together to win every single day.

How can parents be more involved with your school?

A strong pack relies on the strength of the entire community, and parents are our most valuable teammates.  First, I encourage open communication.  Second, getting involved with our parent organizations, like the PTA, is a fantastic way to directly support our classrooms and school events.  Beyond that, simply staying connected to your child’s daily school experience by asking questions and probing for more in-depth answers than “school was fine.”  Coming to school as much as possible to attend our community events, fine arts performances, and athletic games makes a massive difference.  My door is always open, and I look forward to working hand in hand with our families to make Woodstock Middle School the best place it can be.
