Meet a 2023 School Teacher of the Year: Amanda Anderson of Woodstock MS!

Our teachers are amazing, which is why we share the story of a school’s Teacher of the Year every week ... please help us celebrate 2023 Woodstock Middle School Teacher of the Year Amanda Anderson!

Every day is homecoming for Amanda Anderson as a teacher in the middle school she attended as a child.

Now in her sixth year as an educator, Ms. Anderson began her career as a social worker.  She saw the positive impact Special Education teachers have on the lives of children with special needs and heard the call to join those educators.

“I believe all students have the ability to learn and communicate,” said Ms. Anderson, who teaches children with significant special needs, including speech and learning challenges.  “I am blessed to have the job of being able to help students learn and overcome obstacles in their way to access the curriculum and engage with the world around them.”

Their child’s transition to middle school is daunting for many parents and even more so for parents whose children have special needs.  Ms. Anderson’s devotion to her students and their success and happiness eases those fears, according to her students’ parents.

“She gives so much peace and reassurance that her students are like her own children when they are with her,” one parent shared.  “It seems to not just be a job for her, but she is truly dedicated with her life to the success of each student, and it is obvious from a parent perspective.  She gives her all to her role.”

In her own words: “I know the passion my fellow educators within Cherokee County have for our students with disabilities, and I am hopeful that over time the passion from our county will spread to the rest of the state, opening doors for students of all ability levels.”
