About

Woodstock Middle School

Construction for the largest Cherokee County school complex to date, comprised of joined high school and middle school facilities, was begun in 1994. In 1995, Cherokee county voters approved a 52 million dollar tax referendum to help meet rapid growth demands. Located in Towne Lake, 30 miles north of Atlanta, Woodstock Middle School (WMS) and Woodstock High School share a 400,000 square-foot building that can accommodate 3,000 students.

The school campus covers 100 acres. In the fall of 1996, Woodstock High School was completed while the middle school was nearing completion. After a few months of utilizing open classrooms at the adjacent high school complex, WMS opened her doors in mid-November.

The middle school and the high school each have their own library, gymnasium, and cafeteria, but share a kitchen and auditorium. The school facility is one of the largest in the country and was the largest in the Southeast in its opening school year.

Woodstock Middle School was recognized in the fall of 2005 by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement as a Platinum Award school for the greatest gain in percentage scores in meeting or exceeding expectations on the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Tests. As a result of this recognition,Woodstock Middle School was selected as one of fifteen schools in Georgia to host the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education 14th Annual Bus Tour.

Woodstock Middle School continues to set the high academic standards and to build upon a rich tradition of excellence. The Wolves’ Den was able to host the State School Superintendent, Dr. John Barge, during the 2013-2014 school year.

Woodstock Middle School ushered in its first-ever sixth grade class during the 2009-10 school year. Students formerly housed at Woodstock Elementary School and Carmel Elementary School joined the middle school facility. School year 2011-12 provided the first eighth grade class of students who completed all three grade levels at Woodstock Middle School. WMS continues to be a thriving, academically excelling middle school in the state of Georgia.
